Reality versus Myths and Legends about Educational Affairs in the United States
The best source of information (in addition to the existing laws of the United States) can be located in the published references made by the U.S. Department of Education about the Department, about higher education, about universities and about accreditations in the United States.
Statements made by the United States Government
It is difficult to argue with the above statements originating from the U.S. Department of Education that represents governmental point of view according to the existing laws of the United States. Actual statements of the official governmental agency [as the U.S. Department of Education] usually are more believable comparing to all that vividly imagined stories that are posted all over the Internet about some non-existent "special authority" of the U.S. Department of Education and non-existent "authorities" of some private organizations that never had any authority to do anything, except their own private business affairs.
The real U.S. Department of Education has no ability to control the principles of higher education or accreditations for universities.
The real U.S. Department of Education has no educational or accreditation authority.
The United States has no any other organizations that can lawfully claim to be the same (or similar) to the U.S. Department of Education. Nevertheless, some entities are attempting to claim that they have similar "authorities" as the U.S. Department of Education.
Stories about necessity of "recognitions" from the U.S. Department of Education (the same Department that has no any educational authority in the United States and has no authority to "recognize" any accrediting agency) are nothing more but false advertisements invented by the people promoting high costs of higher education, as well as an imagination of uneducated people that are only repeating false information that they are seeing on the Internet or are reading in self-promotional publications of some entities that are trying to establish the highest costs for out higher education.
The U.S. Department of Education clearly informs that there are no designated educational or accreditation authorities in the United States. All other totally non-authoritative organizations have no official authority in the United States and cannot claim to have the same (or similar) authority as the U.S. Department of Education (that has no controlling power in the United States).
The U.S. Department of Education, according to its own statements, has no power to influence higher education, it has no power to make rules about higher education, and it has no power to recognize or to approve accrediting agencies.
The U.S. Department of Education only collects general information about education provided by other entities and the Department is also involved in affairs related to the federal financial aid and federal educational loans.
No other governmental (or non-governmental) agency, or any other governmental (or non-governmental) organization in the United States may have the same or similar authorities, as the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, if any non-governmental organization attempts to present the claims of having the same (or similar) authority, as the United States Department of Education, such non-governmental organization would be nothing more, but a place of deception.
The U.S. Department of Education indeed approves some accrediting agencies, but only if the accrediting agency voluntarily submits itself to the control of the U.S. Department of Education for the purpose of accrediting universities that are accepting federal funds (universities that are accepting payments made by the U.S. federal government).
"Recognitions" made by the U.S. Department of Education are only relevant for the acceptance of federal monies by the universities that are accepting educational loans given to students (or secured) by the U.S. governmental agencies for the payment of educational costs.
The U.S. Department of Education only "recognizes" accrediting agencies that are accrediting universities accepting federal government monies (monies of the U.S. taxpayers). These "recognitions" are not for the quality of universities and not for the quality of accrediting agencies, but only a form of contractual agreement between the U.S. Department of Education (representing federal government) and accrediting agencies that are planning to accredit universities that are accepting federal government payments. The U.S. Department of Education "recognitions" are not the recognition of the quality but recognition of the governmental ability to prosecute any university that would attempt to mishandle federal government monies.
Truth is always simple.
Everything is very simple and fully confirmed by the U.S. Department of Education. However, it never stopped dishonest people and the people with vivid imagination to use parts of legitimate words only to “build up” around these words some fictional stories about non-existing "authorities" that some organizations miraculously "obtained" from nowhere (non-existing "authorities" artificially created by paid promoters).
Manipulators are well-paid to disseminate fictional stories.
All fictional stories are invented by people and by organizations that are promoting high-costs of higher education, just to create cover-up stories for their own misleading activities. These people and organizations are paid to disseminate incorrect information and they are doing such a “dirty job” very successfully, judging by the number of people that got totally deceived and "brainwashed" by manipulators.
Many countries have their own Ministries of Education.
In many countries, the government regulates higher education. Many sovereign entities (as some European countries) have their own Ministries of Education that control their own educational affairs. In these countries, educational institutions are automatically controlled and accredited (licensed) by the country's own Ministry of Education. No additional accreditation by third parties (by different educational organizations) is required in such countries; but very often, private universities are retaining additional accrediting organizations for institutional or programmatic accreditations (the same approach is applicable to all our educational institutions that are controlled by our Religious Government that has its own Ministry of Education).
Some Countries do not have a Ministry of Education.
Some countries, including the United States (as one of these countries), have no Ministry of Education and colleges and universities are free to exercise a reasonable degree of freedom without any form of governmental influence.
Absence of correct information created an opportunity for dishonest and uneducated people to start dissemination of incorrect information.
With all misleading advertisements, many people are totally confused and are incorrectly assuming that the United States Department of Education is equal to the Ministry of Education existing in the countries where the government controls its own educational affairs.
According to the United States laws, the U.S. Department of Education has NO controlling role in any higher education affairs.
Furthermore, NOT even a single private non-governmental organization (including all accrediting agencies/organizations) has any "special authority" to accredit or to recognize colleges, universities, or accrediting organizations.
Educational myths, legends and fairytales were created by the people involved in a hostile takeover of educational affairs, just to impose the highest costs for higher education.
